The Man Booker Prize was first awarded in 1969 and is considered the second most prestigious literary prize behind the Nobel Prize for Literature. Eligible novels are those that are written in English, and originally it was confined to the UK, Ireland and Commonwealth countries. It has now been expanded and can be awarded to any author around the world who writes their novel in English. Just being shortlisted is an incredible achievement, so these novels have achieved amazing success. Special mention should go to Salman Rushdie, who was named the 'Booker of Booker' Prize Winner for his novel 'Midnight's Children', meaning it was voted as the best novel to have received the award.
