This list is culled from an entire host of sources: IMDB's and Rotten Tomatoes' lists of highest ranked Sci-Fi movies; ranked lists from Rolling Stones, Popular Mechanics, IGN, AFI and Time Out; The Saturn Awards; and personal experience. It should be noted that not all of these are *good* movies (coughstarwarsprequels), but could be considered important in terms of the evolution of science fiction movies or as a particular representation of their year, era or style. Lastly, you may not consider some of these sci-fi; however, some styles, such as most superhero films and essentially all post-apocalyptic stories, are by their very nature science fiction, while others are mostly normal films with a few science fiction elements
