The English Teacher Goes to the Movies Part 1: Film Adaptations of Great Literature - Page 4

Our maverick English Teacher and movie buff looks at Literature and Film, and comes up with 200 screen adaptations of major literary works. His criteria were that 1) the literary works had to have appeared on multiple academic reading lists ( or were lesser known work by major writers), and 2) the films had to have been released to movie theaters. Consequently, TV adaptations were excluded ( Sorry BBC.) Film adaptations of plays, particularly Shakespeare, were also excluded because our compiler feels they deserve lists of their own. In some cases multiple adaptations are listed, as are a few popular free adaptations, such as "Apocalypse Now" and "Clueless."
