Considered by many to be the greatest actor of his time, as well as one of the greatest classical stage actors of ALL time, "Larry" had a complicated relationship with film. He often worked in questionable projects for financial reasons and could appear in turn either hammy or indifferent; in the right hands, however, he could be mesmerizing. As it turned out, the right hands often were his own - his self-directed Shakespeare films ( and his performances in them) are outstanding. Sadly, he could never get the funding to film his greatest performance - Macbeth. Still, these ten films show a great actor in complete command of his craft.
