Scary Movies That Address the Female Experience

Although horror films have a horrible track record of misogyny and violence directed at women, there are quite a few films in the genre that subvert these tropes. Horrors and thrillers have been used to explore issues of female identity and experience. Whether it's puberty, pregnancy, predatory men, body standards, sexual agency and abuse or other aspects of the expected female experience, these films offer a unique perspective on the psychological and societal pressures many women undergo.
