Stories about the supernatural can have their disturbances, but what makes most of these stories more frightening to us is how incredibly real they are to our world, even whether it's a fantasy or sci-fi book. War, crime, murder, famines, plagues, apocalypse, the decadence of hope, horrific invasions, fear of the unworldly unknown. Most may not be looked at as Halloween reads, but they can sure keep you up at night.
