The Well-Read Retiree: Historical Fiction

Our retired maverick English Teacher comes up with 50 works of historical fiction limited to one title per author. To be clear, our compiler defines historical fiction as fiction where the author deliberately sets the story in an historical era or epoch other than his or her own. Hence, for example, " A Tale of Two Cities" would be considered historical fiction, but "A Christmas Carol" would not.
