The best horror movies are the ones that don't always affect you in the way you might expect. Maybe you watched in a cinema, thinking you were fine, and got home only to realize you can't turn off the beside light for fear of what lies in the darkness at the foot of your bed. Or perhaps you viewed on a streaming service from the safety of your sofa and suddenly have a fear you couldn't even have imagined before. You did remember to lock the door, didn't you? The best scary movies have the ability to lurk in our minds long after we've seen the end credits roll and they don't always have to be the ones packed with jump scares or grue. Scary movies are far more insidious than that.
