They are recognized by UNESCO for having "cultural and natural heritage around the world considered to be of outstanding value to humanity", according to Wikipedia. As of July 2024, there are 1,223 such sites across 168 countries, with a breakdown of 952 cultural, 231 natural, and 40 mixed properties."
