Women Writing - Page 44

Consider this my #PostSecret. Here goes. I'm a woman. I'm a professional writer. I love ListChallenges. On a whim I decided to compile this list (non-exhaustive, obviously! and I've read only a fraction). While I worked on it, something happened. I noticed I was seeing this list as inferior...because it lacks male writers. I poked those thoughts and one crystallized: "the best female writers can never quite match the best male writers." I've been writing all my life...and subconsciously believing this all my life. This lie in my head didn't come from nowhere, but it's time to smash it. Time for this woman writer to start believing that men and women can be equally great writers.
This list contains woman-penned books old and new. Fiction and non-. Newberys. Pulitzers. Commercial mega-sellers. Indies I hope will find more readers. This list is for Dorothy L. Sayers, writer of my favorite fiction series. It's for me. And if you need to smash a similar lie, it's for you.
