These books, short stories, and literary commentary by women are not the only works I've read by female authors nor are they an exhaustive list of the works by the authors noted here. Instead, this is a listing of works that were especially impactful at a point in my life and in the lives of many others. The stories gave us a glimpse into lives and histories seldom discussed in schools, validated and normalized emotions we didn't dare discuss, inspired and comforted during difficult times, and recognized complicated relationship dynamics. Some also gave a thrill , a chill, or even a deeply disturbing warning of what not to become.
