10 Best Fairy Tale Adaptations for Adults

"Throughout history, fairy tales have often been sanitized and retrofitted to be innocent and genial. However, a closer look at the original fairy tales shows that they often leaned towards being darker and at times, even ribald. For example, one of the original endings to the tale known as Cinderella, has the two stepsisters getting their eyes pecked out by birds. For obvious reasons, Disney chose to not use this ending in their animated adaptation. In recent years, Disney has continued creating very kid-friendly takes on classic fairy tales while other adaptations have stuck to their roots and therefore are aimed at adults. These adult-oriented fairy tale adaptations are intriguing entries to the fantasy genre, and they have earned their fair share of fans as well."
