The Best Movie Adaptations of Books

These are my personal choice for best movies based originally on a novel, where I've both read the book and seen the film (so, e.g. I've seen Francis Ford Coppola's "The Godfather," but i havent read the Mario Puzo novel). They need to be reasonably faithful, or capture something of tge original novel's spirit or intent.
