And if neither of these two take the biggest award, it would be a major surprise. But if they don't, what could possibly step in to shock the cinematic world? The Secret Agent? Yorgos Lanthimos's Bugonia? Surely not F1: The Movie? Well, it is nominated.
With a different panel, we might have had a different list altogether. And although it's hard to imagine the Academy excluding the two front runners, there are plenty of films that could, and possibly should, have made the cut this year.
