Note: I actually regret making this list because most of the bands I've listed are kinda inappropriate for beginners. Bands that are either too heavy (Metallica), too complex (Dream Theater) or have a vocalist who's voice is too high for people (Judas Priest).
If you wanna start getting into metal, I'd recommend old traditional heavy metal and power metal. Extreme metal genres like thrash metal, death metal, and black metal are not for beginners. Not yet. Progressive metal isn't too heavy but would be too complex for beginners.
With all that said, enjoy listening to your first metal band. And if you can't get into metal, then don't worry. To each their own.
