Some of these trilogies may have had additional films made later (Bourne, Pirates of the Caribbean, Alien) but were originally made as a trilogy and (often) work best as such and some be part of a larger franchise (Marvel Cinematic Universe, Star Wars, X-Men), but all can be considered a trilogy. A few inclusions are 'thematic' trilogies where the movies are stand-alone, but united by a theme (Three Flavours Cornetto).
