Books Which Schlocko Didn't Understand

I'm not the most astute reader in the world, but I do tend to understand the point of a book . . . with the following exceptions. That's not always an aesthetic judgment, Iris Murdoch is always a pleasure even when I'm wondering what the hell she's trying to teach me. And sometimes it transcends literature to a more existential confusion . . . to wit, what kind of reality produced Henry Miller? And why didn't someone do something about it?
