Canadian Foods You Have to Try
There are many foods that originated in, or are unique to Canada, that everyone really should try if they get the opportunity. Some don't come from where you would think, like California Roll sushi, or Hawaiian Pizza (Surprise! both from Canada), while others, like Montreal Steak Spice and Montreal Smoked Meat do. (And for the record; sorry New York, but Montreal Bagels are better.) And by the way, no Canadian calls Canadian Bacon Canadian Bacon - it's Back Bacon, or maybe Peameal Bacon, because it's rolled in cornmeal (of course). Many of the best ones are chocolate bars (Canadians don't call them candy bars). Some are available elsewhere, but called something else, like Kraft Macaroni & Cheese (Kraft Dinner in Canada, or just "KD" if you speak Canadian.) Some reflect Canada's founding cultures; Pemmican (Indigenous), Red Rose Tea (English), and Tourtière (French), while others reflect Canada's multicultural character, like Ginger Beef and Donair. How many have you tried?
