Cinephile 101: The Basics in Horror

Cinephile 101 is a cinephile/film buff list series, aiming to cover a diverse range of different areas that anyone who claims this distinction should really know their stuff in.
In this entry of this series, we're looking at horror movies. Just the absolute basics that should be every would-be horror aficionado's starting point. From Carpenter to Craven, this list will have you covered, with all major franchises represented by their first movie. Not every movie included here is necessarily considered to be any good, but they all have their audience. There are no bad movies: only movies 'you' didn't like. While most movies on this list were purposely chosen with age and having stood the test of time in mind, a few highly acclaimed modern gems have also been featured.
