Dalkey Archive Press: Important Works With a Reputation for Being "Difficult"

Is a challenge like this more an inspiration or a deterrent to reading the works? The list is a companion to my recently published "Dalkey Archive Press: Overlooked Works of Fiction" (follow the link). Surprisingly (to me at least) there is very little overlap between the works in the 2 challenges.
The source publishers "asked our academic and bookstore advisors across the country to respond to a number of questions. The following list [was] compiled from their responses." (Dalkey Archive Press)
Alphabetical by author's surname.
