Dark Countries: The Fiction of Dennis Etchison

The heir apparent to Richard Matheson, Dennis Etchison was considered by many to be the finest short story writer of the modern horror revival. His ability to find unease and terror in the everyday and to present it in a uniquely elliptical style was unmatched, except perhaps by Thomas Ligotti. Writing under his own name and the pseudonyms Jack Martin and Curtis Richards, he also produced effective original novels and first rate novelizations of hit movies. He was a superb editor, producing several landmark anthologies of horror stories during the 1980s and '90s. Etchison also worked in television and radio, where he was best known for adapting "Twilight Zone " scripts for NPR's radio version of Rod Serling's Classic TV show. Dennis Etchison died in 2019.
