Stretching from subtropical Atlantic coastline, with nesting Wood Storks and Purple Gallinules in swamps and marshes, through the Piedmont, with pinewoods specialties like Red-cockaded Woodpecker and Bachman's Sparrows, to the southern extent of the Appalachians, with cold-adapted birds like Common Raven and Winter Wren, Georgia is a fantastic place to look for birds. The state bird, the Brown Thrasher, is common throughout and gave Atlanta's former NHL team its name. If you'll pardon the obvious pun, birding in Georgia can be just peachy.
