Since their inception back in 1946, Penguin Classics have done more to make great literature available to the general public in affordable, readable editions than any other publishing endeavor ( Including Oxford World Classics and Barnes and Noble Classics). Translations are chosen for clarity and readability as well as accuracy; the supporting apparatus ( introductions, annotations, text readings, and further reading recommendations) are all thorough without being obtrusive. Here, I have listed the titles that I actually own, read, and have used in my teaching. All books listed are actual, physical books, and are distinctive in their Penguin Classics uniform black covers. The only exception is Wagner's Ring, which only exists in their hardcover line. Ebooks are NOT included. Duplicates represent different translations and/or editions within the Penguin Classics catalogue.
