Happy new year! The extra items this month are celebratory items, I swear. I just couldn't make myself stop shoving things onto the list...anyway! My favorite read from last month was The Shadow Book of Ji Yun; it was also my favorite book of the year. It's a collection of actual old weird tales from historic China, told by a narrator who's like, "I didn't WANT to believe this stuff, but unfortunately I've seen too much of it to be in denial. But your mileage may vary." He writes in the same tone whether he's talking about dead family members or vicious animated dolls. C'est la weird. I'm most looking forward to My Mother She Killed Me, My Father He Ate Me, a collection of fairy/folk tale retellings. May your fortunes be good and your spirits be reslient; that should cover you either way :)
