IMDB has their top 250 Greatest Films (which blows by the way), while I have my own personal top 250 comedy/drama collection (and still building as we speak). So, what do you find funny? Physical comedy, satire, black humor, farce, comedy of manners, slapstick, dramaties or romantic comedies? My favorite sub-genre is the screwball comedies throughout the Golden Age with their quick witted dialogue and zany storylines. My personal favorites are especially the ones made during the pre-code era. Along with the nostalgia you can't go wrong with a comedy from the 80's because there is something about that Reagan era which seems more pure and wholesome (obviously at the time it most certainly was not). I am not too keen on obnoxious Saturday Night Live feature films especially starring Adam Sandler or the crass gross-out sex comedies written by Judd Apatow, but everyone has their comedic preference. High brow or low brow, whatever can make one laugh is comedy, and a successful one at that.
