1982 brings further new metal acts into the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, while Iron Maiden releases The Number of the Beast, widely hailed as the greatest release to come out of the movement. Overseas other countries are starting to rise up in competition, with the US and Germany in particular fast closing the UK's lead.Things are still mostly traditional at this point, with some speed metal and glam but thrash metal is just around the corner.
