New York State has a number of top birding hotspots for the visiting or resident birder to explore. Right in urban New York City, Manhattan's Central Park is a green oasis for migrating songbirds, while Brooklyn's Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge attracts numerous waterbirds throughout the year. Farther north, the Buffalo/Niagara Falls area is a winter refuge for over a dozen gull species, while the Adirondacks are nesting grounds for boreal specialties like Spruce Grouse and Black-backed Woodpecker. No matter where you are in New York, there are good birds to be found.
