Schlocko's Humiliation List

I'm enjoying the "humiliation" meme here on ListChallenges, so here's my contribution. Some are by novelists whose other works I find intimidatingly brilliant (James Baldwin, Elena Ferrante, Toni Morrison); some are in genres that I feel guilty for disliking (JRR Tolkien, William Gibson); some are non-fiction explorations of social injustice which will probably depress me, enrage me, or both (Michele Alexander, Robin DiAngelo); some are works of philosophy by existentialists whose willful obscurity gets on my nerves (Jean-Paul Sartre, Soren Kierkegaard); some are collections of essays by people who find themselves more fascinating than I do (David Sedaris, Wendell Berry); and there's one which I read and now regret (you figure it out).
