Few people completed the 1990-1999 list, and it became clear that I would have to break the decades down further for additional lists because of how the genre has simply burgeoned in the new century, and of course there are some earlier films I failed to put on previous lists, but sitll over 1,000. Following the same model as Phil Hardy's Overlook Film Encyclopedia, this list is edited down from The Internet Movie Database's list of science fiction films to eliminate those that are clearly fantasy/magic/supernatural/horror and making-of documentaries. Everything from dinosaurs to demons seems to fit the classification by the crowdsourced definition. (For Hardy, dinosaurs and other animals had to be mutated or experimental to count.) As with Hardy, I've included comedy, foreign, DTV, kidvid, animation, and sexploitation. Making this list has certainly been enlightening in terms of film history, and I hope you'll find new films to watch from it. I know I certainly have.
