The American West and the Australian Outback

A feast for the eyes and soul. 40 books per setting, most by well-known authors (at least for Australian bibliophiles). In alphabetical order by country, then by author's surname (sort of).
This list contains both fiction and nonfiction works. I have tried to avoid too much overlap with similar challenges, but wanted to include as many of my read books as possible.
I am particularly interested in people's opinions, if any, about the works of Edward Abbey.
