The English Teacher's Top Ten: The Films of Richard Todd
Our maverick English Teacher and movie buff goes the "Top Ten "route with movie makers, movie stars, and movie genres. Up next - Richard Todd. After serving in the paratroops in WWII, Todd made a splash in some post-war thrillers and earned an Oscar nomination for "The Hasty Heart". From then on he made a solid career in England and the US playing stalwart Brits in costume dramas and war films, with his career-defining roles in "The Dam Busters" and "The Longest Day"( Todd played his own C.O. In the latter film, and played a scene with another actor playing Capt. Richard Todd). Todd's movie career waned in the 1960s as times and tastes changed, but he moved smoothly into radio and television v.o. work and successfully managed his own repertory theatre. He received an O.B.E. In 1993, and died in 2009, just shy of his 90th birthday.
