The Greatest Cover Songs of All Time According to Schlocko

Some of these are radical reinterpretations, some are respectful tributes, all bring a quality to the song which wasn't present in the original. I have excluded hit covers of previous obscure songs, like Aretha Franklin's version of "Respect," about which Otis Redding said "that girl done stole my song." I've also avoided versions by punk bands like Me First and the Gimme Gimmes who have made a career, however respectable, of campy covers. And no Linda Ronstadt. Sorry, I just couldn't.
