James), slasher stories (Graham Jones), cosmic horror (Hodgson, Lovecraft), weird fiction (Ligotti, Carroll), Gothic (Du Maurier, Martin, Slaughter), mystery/thriller (Allingham, Carr, Sager), dark fantasy (Ashton Smith), "literary fiction" (Morrison, Everett, O'Brien), kids' books (Bradbury, Gaiman), fairy tale-ish (Goss, Slaughter), s.f. (Matheson, Kneale), noir (Woolrich), single-author story collections (Brown, Lee, Bradbury), even some humor (Zelazny, Sidor), a scattering of vampires and werewolves, some less easily classified books (Harrison, Gay) and non-fiction (Hartman, Hendrix, Kroger). Listed in author order, some books are horrific, some much lighter.
