This list uses a bestseller table in "The Chronology of American Literature: America's Literary Achievements from the Colonial Era to Modern Times" by Daniel S. Burt (2004). If a book appeared twice on the bestseller table, I substituted a film version or a book sequel (though obviously the rank refers to the original book).
