Holarctic Birds - Page 2

This is a list of the bird species with holarctic distributions: found in both the Palearctic (Europe, Asia north of the Himalayas, and northern Africa) and Nearctic (North America) ecozones. Only widespread, non-cosmopolitan species that nest or are resident across a wide swath of both zones are included here; mostly Palearctic birds like Common Ringed Plover or White Wagtail that have a limited Nearctic range in Alaska or Canada are primarily excluded, and vice versa, but some decisions were rather arbitrary. In many cases, these birds have different names on the different continents (e.g., Common Merganser is Goosander in Europe), but since I'm an American, this list generally follows American naming and taxonomy.
