The Chronology of American Literature in the 20th Century: 1940-1949

Who will win Round 7 ? Asphlex2 or Tommood or a new contender?
This is the 7th instalment of my chronology of American fiction. It is a list of novels & short story collections by American authors published in 1940-1949. There are 8 Pulitzer Prize winners & the first two National Book Award winners as well as works by Nobel Prize winners Bellow, Faulkner, Hemingway, Steinbeck and Sinclair Lewis.
Click on the link to go to the previous instalment, which covers 1950-1959.
The source is "The Chronology of American Literature: America's Literary Achievements from the Colonial Era to Modern Times" by Daniel S. Burt (2004).
The books by year are are:
1940: 1-31
1941: 32-60
1942: 61-80
1943: 81-103
1944: 104-120
1945: 121-141
1946: 142-172
1947: 174-201
1948: 202-235
1949: 236-265
Just an observation (?warning): the paperback covers of this era seem to bear little relationship to the book's actual content or seriousness.
