Our maverick English Teacher surveys the field of Teen/Young Adult fiction and selects 50 titles that are first rate pieces of writing as well as target audience appropriate. He chose 50 as the target number to keep the list manageable; consequently, many fine works have been left off. To answer what he thinks are the most likely questions - 1) The Harry Potter Books were omitted because they have transcended the YA market niche to become bonafide classics for all ages; and 2) The Twilight Series has been omitted because sparkling vampires are just wrong.
