According to Dave's Music Database, "in 2004, James Henke, chief curator for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, with the help of music writers and critics, selected 500 songs (not only rock songs) that they believe have been most influential in shaping rock and roll. Several sources indicate that the original list from 2004 was expanded at some point to over 600 songs, but none of those sources seem to indicate exactly when this was done."
