Richard Brody said that a list of our new film discoveries each year would be more useful than a list of the best films made in the current year, and each year I do just that, particularly since I don't get to theatres very often and am more interested in watching great old films over mediocre new ones.
This list includes films I saw for the first time that I have rated (out of 10) 10, 9, or 8. Items 1-19 were rated 10, items 20-50 are rated 9, and items 51-107 are rated 8. I gave some DVD supplements 8s as well, but if they weren't in the database, I did not include them.
