Girl's Guide to Good Movies: 1934

This series is based on A Girl's Guide to Good Movies (https://www.listchallenges.com/girls-guide-to-good-movies). For this list I chose 40 movies per year that portray women in an interesting light. Some years are extremely difficult when women are relegated to being eye candy without thought or motivation (the 1970's were especially unkind). Luckily, there's always the heyday of Hollywood when vehicles were created specifically for their biggest box office stars. Bette Davis, Barbara Stanwyck, Helen Hayes, Myrna Loy, Joan Blondell, Fay Wray, Merle Oberon and, of course, Shirley Temple... thank you for existing in all your complex glory.
