This is a list of all regularly occurring shorebirds found in the USA and Canada. Shorebirds are included in the order Charadriiformes along with gulls, terns, and alcids (puffins and relatives), and North American representatives are divided amongst four families: Recurvirostridae (stilts and avocets), Haematopodidae (oystercatchers), Charadriidae (plovers and lapwings), and Scolopacidae (sandpipers). Most of the birds in this list nest on the continent, but a few (Ruff, Curlew Sandpiper, etc.) are annually occurring rare visitors - usually during migration periods - that nest in Europe or Asia.
