The 500 Most Important Bird Areas in the United States - Page 9

This list comes from the 2003 book of the same name, published by the American Bird Conservancy (ABC) and The Nature Conservancy. The Important Bird Areas (IBA) program, started by Bird Life International in the 1980s, identifies the most globally important areas for bird conservation; the ABC's Green List identifies the status of North America's birds to determine which species (including subspecies) are the most at risk. Criteria for site selection: it must be of significant importance, during at least some part of the year, by containing habitat that supports 1) a species on the ABC Green List, and/or 2) a significantly large concentration of breeding, migrating or wintering birds. Note that not all of these sites are publicly accessible.
