The Bibliophile's Best Books of Each Genre: Dystopian Literature

This is the eighth in a series of lists I'm publishing providing, in my opinion, the best 40 books (or series) of each genre of fiction. I plan to cover nearly twenty genres in total. So far, I've published lists for historical fiction, horror, thrillers, children's literature, war literature, fantasy and family sagas.
This list provides what I believe to be the best dystopian novels of all time. Studying 1984, Animal Farm, The Handmaid's Tale and Utopia in High School opened my eyes to the disturbing but powerful nature of these novels. While they're not exactly a beach read, they're essential cautionary tales, and we must heed their messages. Indeed, I believe we as a world find ourselves in a moment when the totalitarian and theocratic horrors of these novels are becoming genuinely possible outcomes. So, I hope you enjoy this list, share the novels with others and go through my series of lists so far!
