Since Iwas first given the Landmark Books "King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table" when I was about eight or nine, I have been fascinated by the legend of King Arthur. Iread the major texts ( in translation when needed) while doing my English degree in college, and am familiar with the major scholarly works, but I have always wondered what the genesis of these wonderful stories actually was. Was there a real historical figure behind the myth? If there were, who, where, and when was he?
